Facebook APP ID Setup

As you know, FooBox allows you to share images through many social networks, including Facebook. By default, Facebook shares are done using their “sharer” code. But recently, Facebook announced that they have deprecated this code in preference of their new “Feed Dialog” sharing,  which requires a Facebook App ID.

Setting up a Facebook App ID is easy, and we’ll show you exactly how to do it below in order to use the feed dialog way of sharing with FooBox.

Step 1:

Navigate to the Social Icons tab in FooBox Settings.

Step 2:

Notice the new settings here for enabling the new “Feed Dialog” Facebook setting and also for entering your Facebook App ID.

Click the link to “Get your App ID”. This will take you to the Developer section of Facebook.

Step 3:

Log into Facebook with your normal credentials.

Step 4:

Now you’re in the Developer section of Facebook.

Click the "Apps" dropdown menu item and choose “Create a New App”.

Step 5:

Give your App a Display Name

Note: Entering a Namespace is optional and not required for use with FooBox sharing.

Then choose a category.

After filling in the Display Name and choosing a relevant category for your website, click the Create App button.

Step 6:

You'll now see a Captcha security form. Enter the Captcha details and click "Submit".

Step 7:

Congratulations! You've just created a Facebook App!

You're now seeing your new App Dashboard. You'll see under the App Name a sentence that says "This app is in development mode".

We still need to do a couple more things before we're done.

Step 8:

On the left side of your App Dashboard, click the "Settings" menu item.

Enter the “App Domains” and "Contact Email" for your app. Do not put in the “http” part of the domain.

Step 9:

Click the "Add Platform" button.

Choose "Website" as your platform.

Enter your website address into the "Site URL" field.

Note: You DO want to include the full URL, including the http://

Then choose "Save Changes"

Step 10:

Make your App live and available to all users. Do this by going to the "Status & Review" tab in the vertical menu on the left. Then toggle the button at the top that says "Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public?".

Step 11:

Go back to the "Settings" tab. Highlight and Copy your App ID from the App Dashboard

Step 12:

Navigate back to Settings-->FooBox-->Social Icons and down to the "Facebook Settings" area.

Check the box next to "Enable New Feed Dialog".

Paste your App ID into the "Facebook App ID" field.

Enter the (optional) Facebook Feed Redirect URL.

Scroll to the bottom of this page and click "Save Changes".
